Q: What is the DARPA Grand Challenge? A: The DARPA Grand Challenge is an autonomous vehicle race over an approximate 175-mile course through the Mojave Desert in the shortest time under 10 hours. A: Last year, 25 teams made it to National Qualifications and 15 continued on to the final race, which spanned from Barstow, CA to Primm, NV. This year, DARPA plans to choose 40 teams for the National Qualifications and qualify 20 teams for the final Challenge. Q: I heard none of the teams made it past 10 miles last year. What makes UC Davis think they have a chance? A: UC Davis is home to some of the most amazing, yet undiscovered talent in the country.
