After an amazing trip down to Primm, NV to watch the DGC 2005 race, we return home with a renewed spirit and lots of ideas to try and improve our design (thanks to our very friendly and very helpful competitors). While no official announcement regarding a future DARPA Grand Challenge has been made yet, we intend to complete our project with a few modifications and prepare for our next challenge!

Come visit BESSIE this Saturday, April 16th at UC Davis's 91st Annual Picnic Day celebration! Picnic Day is the largest student-run event in the United States and is the annual Open House for the University of California, Davis. The projected number of attendees at this one-day event is an amazing 50,000-60,000 visitors!

We will be following in the proud tradition of the many major student-run groups before us, and showcasing our work in the official Picnic Day parade (we're #70), an alumni BBQ, and in demonstrations and exhibitions throughout the afternoon. We have confirmed our official site visit date and time of Tuesday, May 3rd at 9AM. We will be conducting our site visit at Prairie City SRA and you're invited! While you're there, please be sure to thank the generous staff at Prairie City for giving us the opportunity to show off our skills at their facility.

The official word is in! Team Aggie Spirit has been awarded one of 118 site visits offered to the many talented teams entered in the DARPA Grand Challenge. The official DARPA press release can be viewed here.

We submitted our official team application (Parts 3, 4, and 5) on Tuesday and are waiting to hear the final count from DARPA. We are now working hard to upgrade our existing electronics, and will be integrating our sensors soon. We will keep you updated on our status as more occurs.

After several long weekends (without much sleep), BESSIE is now a prized calf of Team Aggie Spirit! We will be posting photos and additional media from the last few weekends shortly.

This is TAS's big work weekend! (2 hours awake and counting) We will be meeting this weekend at our garage to test BESSIE extensively before we shoot our video demonstration on Sunday. We also need to replace the front brake line someone accidentally broke last weekend. We'll see you out at Prairie City!

Team Aggie Spirit has acquired a vehicle and is working to outfit it with the mechanical controls required for autonomous terrain travel. Our electronics team is working on prototyping and testing several of our sensors and our software team is concentrating efforts on our vehicle movement with GPS assist. A more detailed logbook will be posted soon. Please stay tuned.

Team Aggie Spirit is currently holding weekly meetings and is in the process of acquiring funding and a vehicle. We have over 50 team members, with a diverse group of members which include students from Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Optical Engineering, and Physics disciplines.
